The weather is warm and the outdoors is calling your name. But, maybe a trip to the tropics just isn’t in the stars (or your wallet) this year. Luckily there are many a joyful diversion right here in New England, just a tank of gas away. And even if you grew up in this area, […]
With the summer weather peeking its head around the corner, Bostonians are eager to shed their jackets and bask in the urban sunshine. But if you’re not one of the lucky few who zoom off to a cottage on the Vineyard, the evenings are wide open for some summer fun. On the evening of Thursday, June […]
Free is a word everyone seems to seek out these days. And Radio 92.9 (formerly WBOS) has been kind enough to provide the good people of Boston with this free concert going on 16 years now.
Sponsored by Whole Foods Market (a personal favorite of mine – their free sample selection is phenomenal), the concert being held this Saturday May 30th, focuses on all things green with a special emphasis on community involvement.
Not sure about the difference between a Pinot and Prosecco? Or a Merlot and a Muscat? Then maybe you need a little guidance from The Second Glass. This Boston-based print and online wine magazine offers a hip, unpretentious approach to wine, demystifying the world of wine and helping beer-loving Bostonians learn more about different wine regions, styles of wine, and pairing options. They also offer a weekly email called the Wine of the Weekend. (Full disclosure: I’m friends with the marketing director, but I’d be blogging about this either way. Trust me, it’s that cool.)

There are many reasons to be proud of the music and musicians that have originated from Boston. Perhaps one of the best home-grown guilty pleasures is the J. Geils Band. Personally, “Centerfold” and “Freeze Frame” were two personal favorites of the just-been-born (what’s-a-music-video?) MTV era. When the tunes come on the “we play everything” radio station, I still crank it up and roll down the windows in the car. For others, the J. Geils of the 70’s is the true Boston grit rock. Either way, the boys still rock.
