The MBTA is releasing real time information on some of its bus routes, which will relay where a particular bus currently is along its route, and when it is expected to arrive at its next stop.

The data is being released to third party developers in an effort to encourage them to develop user friendly software. The raw XMT data  will be made digestible for commuters in the form of  mobile apps and web-based software.

Currently the bus lines being tracked are the 39, 111, 114, 116 and 117.

This new information adds to the data on other transit routes that the MBTA already released back in August, which allowed various transit information to be integrated into Google Maps.

The DOT says it hopes to add more routes and information in the future.
