Faneuil Hall Tree Being Prepared 2010This past weekend we went into Faneuil Hall Marketplace in Boston for the afternoon.  Our kids have gotten a big kick out of the street performers but we didn’t have anything in mind when we went in.  We were delightfully surprised as we stumbled on to a performance by Jason The Escape artist and we also got a chance to see the big Holiday tree being prepared for this weekend’s Annual Tree Lighting.

We have been to previous tree lightings at Faneuil Hall since it seems to always fall on our anniversary weekend.  We like to go into the city since we got married at St. Cecelia’s over in the Back Bay.  The event is very popular and at times can be crowded.  You have to jockey for position so that you will get a clear view of some of the activities in front of the tree but the tree is obviously visible from the main central area of Faneuil Hall Marketplace.  Activities take place Saturday November 20th from 11 – 7pm with the tree lighting taking place at the end.

Another sign of the Christmas and Holiday Season is ice skating.  The Boston Common Frog Pond is also opening up this weekend for ice skating.  After a delay because of warm weather the official opening is happening on Sunday November 21 at 5:30pm.

The evening’s Master of Ceremonies will be Dan Weinstein, 1998 and 2002 Olympic Speed Skater and National Short Track Speed Skating Champion who has served as an NBC Olympic Commentator for speed skating events.

According to the Boston Frog Pond’s Twitter page the opening ceremony is a go for Sunday at 5:30.  The warm weather has not made things easy…

Ready or not Boston is kicking off the 2010 Christmas and Holiday Season!
